A Green Path Gathering
Green Hands & VeloFest Encourage Community to Consider Greener Transportation
St. Augustine, Florida – 1/24/2019 – News ReleaseImagine a beautiful park filled with children and their parents, young adults and active seniors. Now imagine it as a path adjacent to our beloved A1A stretched from the beach to our historic city. We envision area residents heading home from the Amphitheatre, bicycle baskets filled with packages from the local night market; groups of friends riding to a show on a sunny evening; couples holding hands walking from a transit stop. Would you be excited to be at that park too? Would you exchange a few car trips a week and walk or ride to the beach? The city? To school? The park? Would you believe it’s the easiest way to lower your carbon footprint and do something good for the environment? That’s what Green Hands and VeloFest Community Initiative want you to consider.
A Green Path Gathering on February 21 seeks to educate and generate dialogue about green transportation. Green Hands and VeloFest wants visitors and area residents to think about human powered options and last mile solutions when visiting the St. Augustine Amphitheatre. These solutions impact the environment less and allow users enjoy the journey more.
In 2013, VeloFest Community Initiative partnered successfully with the St. Augustine Amphitheatre for Mumford & Sons Gentleman of the Road Tour Bicycle Valet. That bicycle project help meet our mission of education and a lower carbon foot print through the use of bicycles. “With the right plan, we saw nearly 7,000 bicycles hit the road as transportation. We know we can do that every weekend with safe paths and greenways” said Heather Neville. “Teaming with the Amphitheatre again through Green Hands just makes sense to get our community thinking of ways to get around without their car.”
Green Hands has successfully launched green systems by leveraging the success and reach of the St. Augustine Amphitheatre. Green Hands programs such as the Pint Program, One Less Plastic Bag, The Last Plastic Straw as well as composting food waste from shows and onsite recycling, have helped achieve the goal of reducing individual’s ecological footprint. Green Hands’ reach is so much further than the Amphitheatre and that is why VeloFest loves this partnership.
A Green Path Gathering offers attendees an opportunity to learn more about local greenway initiatives and state projects such as the River to Sea Loop, how to get involved and education. Doors open at 5:30PM on the Front Porch at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre with an amazing line up of information starting at 6:00PM. VeloFest, Green Hands, The River to Sea Loop and others will be on hand. Building on previous programs, we will have reusable water bottles, bags and bicycle lights plus a raffle ticket just for coming. Do not hesitate to drive to the event, but consider an alternative too! Be sure to “RSVP” to the Facebook event so you see more about ways you can be a little greener in 2019!
