Where to park, where to stay, where to buy your wears........

Get ready to read!

If there is one thing that drives me nuts when I go out of town to an event, it’s not knowing where I am going. I’m going to try to be as detailed for all you foreigners out there, so here goes! It’s in two sections. First is getting here. Next is where to stay. Last is other info that I usually like to know when going out of town.

Traveling in the city and county:

St. Johns County and St. Augustine is really ideal as destination can get for travelers, so much so that most fall in love and usually come back to buy. Ask Jim Escobar and his wife Ellie (he is racing but also did much of the road improvement for the crit!) There are 3 roads that cut through north to south and 2 that go east to west. Velo Fest is easy if you can find US1 (Parade, Crit, Festival)  and CR207 (Road Race.)  Here are the addresses to punch into those apps for each day:

Friday: Start at  10 Castillo 32084(Parking Garage) end at 44 Sevilla Street 23084(Flagler College West Lawn)

Saturday: 1 King Street(Old City Crit) 25 Castillo Drive(Francis Field Festival)

Sunday: 5995 Brough Road, Elkton, FL (Sykes and Cooper Farm) 32033

Parking:

There are many options in the old city. All hotels have parking for free if you stay there with the exception of a few properties, so if you are coming in from out of town, your best bet is staying in one of the hotels and riding your bike! If you need to park closer to the event here are your options.

Friday Movement of the People Bike Parade, 5:00pm City Of St. Augustine Parking Garage 10 Castillo 32084:

You can park either in the parking garage or in the Prosperity Bank parking lot. The Prosperity Bank parking lot located off US1 near the Castillo intersection and is convenient for you if you are carrying your rack on top. It is also less expensive then the parking garage and has an access road(Riberia Street) between the lot and the festival field with a nice, lesser utilized road, Orange Street, that you can take to the parking garage for the start of the parade. You can also load up a Park Now card, click here for more info, which you can purchase from the city, and park at all metered, including the Parking Garage, for a greatly reduced price depending on which meter you are on around town. This card doesn’t expire, so you can come back to St. Augustine and visit again! The parade finishes at Flagler College West Lawn off of King Street. You could also utilize city parking downtown and ride to and from as an option. The parade event is over before 7pm so there is plenty of natural light to guide you back to where ever you park.

Saturday, Old City Crit Races, 6am reg opens, 7am-12pm, City of St. Augustine Plaza de la Constitucion 1 King Street 32084:

Parking is certainly at a premium in the most popular and most traveled area of the city. At this time of morning you won’t see to many additional tourists until approximately 10:00 a.m. There are several city lots which will be able to be accessed fully until approximately 6:00am then the barricades will begin to go up. The Villa Zorayda Museum will be accessible along the course until approximately 6:30 am or until the lot is full. More info about their location here. There is metered parking along the bay front and lots scattered throughout. If you are coming with a team car please email director@velofest.org for information on specific lots designated for you.  You can of course utilize the parking garage since it is centrally located, and will not be affected by road closures. It is also next to the events field where all the afternoon happenings will be taking place so it is a great option, and we hope to see you all there some time between 1-7pm to enjoy the food, sounds, and tasty Sweet Water Brewery Beer.

Sunday, Sykes and Cooper Farm Road Race, 8am-11am, 5995 Bough Road, Elkton FL

Parking is easy at the Farm! There is an actual parking lot for their event area right off Brough Road near the 207 intersection. And its FREE

Where to stay:

Here is a  list of places that still have availability as of Monday evening. Each has what is available and if there is a Velo Fest code along with website. These are also all partners of the Visitor Center Bureau who funded us with a $5,000 grant this year. Be kind to these folks! They are our neighbors and our friends.

Where to buy your wears:

Well, depending on what you need, our tiny town has you covered. There are many grocery stores in the area including 4 Publix grocery stores and 2 Winn-Dixie stores. There is also a Wal-mart and Target along US1 along with just about any chain fast food you can imagine. In the cities Historic District there are many restaurants to take a taste at and we hope you do. Saturday morning there will be multiple coffee shops open around the course such as Kookaburra and Casa Monica, who will be open at 6am. Look for other signs for additional shops. The Velo Fest merch tent along with Wrigley Ride Registration pick up and day of reg will be on St. George street which bisects the course to the west of the finish line. Crit registration is also set up in this area as well. After the races, while the riders are out on Wrigley Ride, the festival will be happening on Francis Field. This is a free, come and go event with music, food, and fun vendors as well as a VW Bulli Brigade swap meet. There is bike valet, so feel free to ride your bike! Sunday we will have vendors at the farm, so don’t worry, you wont go hungry. I’m pretty sure Pesky’s Burritos will do the trick.
