Wrigley Ride 2017 & Beyond

Wrigley Ride 2017 & Beyond

The Bryan B. Wrigley Memorial Ride in 2011 was simply a memorial for a friend. Six years later, through trials and triumphs, the Wrigley Ride has endured as the beacon of possibility that our community and world can become a safer place for cycling. Nearly 1500 riders have taken part in the event, many in the memory of loved ones.

As VeloFest was born, so many programs and projects were given new breathe because of a life cut short. It is still painful to write content about Bryan, the still unsolved hit & run and the many that have occurred since April 13, 2011. Incredibly vivid memories of live news crews, text messages amongst riders and their wives burn in our minds and soak our cheeks. But as he lived his life so vibrantly so we set out to make the changes we wanted to see for our community.

Our lovely coastal county has embraced the ideas and the projects in such a way that we started moving more in the direction of service projects and out of the large event planning realm, but we kept a tight hold on the Wrigley Ride. After a tense summer of advocacy surrounding the SUN Fund and Rumble Stripe Removal Efforts then the setback  Hurricane Matthews destruction of many homes and even our own offices and storage, we didn’t know exactly what the future held for this event. Luckily for us, Cycle Across America and Paul Ricci its founder believed in our little event up here in Northeast Florida. Over the summer we began talks of making Wrigley Ride a part of the CAAM series, but after the storm we knew we would need more then just a series to keep this event alive. We are proud to announce that we are turning over the reigns of this wonderful event to C.A.A.M. VeloFest will remain close and even the beneficary of the event. We are excited to provide volunteers and our assistance locally to their team and help bring this ride to the masses! THey have a few fun and exciting adages including a century, a new location at Rype & Ready and some sharpness relating to the cycling itself!

We look forward to seeing you all February 18, 2017 and beyond for fund event suprises, good pre ride coffee, cold post ride brews and lifelong friends.
